About Teach+

Teach+ is a specialist behaviour training provider for schools. Every lead trainer is Ofqual assessed, every course is designed with a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, and every school we train keeps access to our psychology team afterwards.

Why Teach+ exists

Teach+ was founded by Ian Rafferty, a qualified teacher and Level 3 Physical Restraint Instructor who had spent more than ten years delivering training in schools.

Ian founded Teach+ Positive Intervention Ltd to do things differently: independently assessed trainers, a curriculum designed with a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, and ongoing psychology support built into every package as standard.

Teach+ and Thrive Education Group

Ian Rafferty is also a director of Thrive Education Group, a specialist education recruitment agency whose team has supplied teachers, teaching assistants and support staff to schools for over fifteen years.

The two entities are separate companies with separate purposes. Thrive places staff into schools; Teach+ trains the professionals already working in them. Both are based at Avenue HQ in Liverpool, and both are built on the same first-hand knowledge of what school staff face every day. Schools that work with Thrive receive Teach+ training at a preferential rate.

Psychology is part of the package, not an add-on

Most training providers deliver a course and leave. The hard questions usually arrive later: a pupil whose behaviour does not fit the pattern, an incident that shakes a member of staff, a plan that is not working.

That is why every Teach+ package includes ongoing access to clinical and education psychologists. Your staff can ask for advice on individual pupils, incidents and their own wellbeing for as long as you work with us.

Our Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Dr Carol Sadler, helps design every course and keeps the content in line with current evidence. She also offers consultation to Teach+ schools, helping them turn training into lasting change.

How we work

All Teach+ training is delivered on-site, at your school, by a trainer who is also a qualified teacher. We tailor every course to your setting: your pupils, your policies and your challenges. Full-day, half-day and twilight formats fit around your timetable.

We train schools across the UK, from mainstream primaries to specialist SEMH settings.

Our standards

Ofqual is the independent regulator of qualifications in England. Our lead trainers are assessed against a regulated standard every year, by an external body rather than by us. Many providers assess their own trainers, which means the organisation checking the quality is the same organisation being checked. At Teach+ we use an external assessor, to make a clear distinction with those being assessed.
